“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” just had by far the best midseason finale of any fall show. There, I said it. The level of awesomeness on display here was beyond compare. Oh, and it also just happened to unlock a previously untapped side of the Marvel Universe that has the potential to impact just about every upcoming Marvel movie. Pretty cool for a show that too many impatient people left for dead last season, huh?
So much happened in this episode I barely know where to begin. There was sex and ultra violence. We learned more about both Whitehall and Skye’s father’s histories and motivations. We also made some major headway on finding this fabled city that everyone is so keen on getting to first. It all made for an entertaining ride that is further proof of how strong Season 2 of “S.H.I.E.L.D” has been.
It took five episodes, but “S.H.I.E.L.D” has finally raised its Season 2 stakes in a tangible way. Whenever the phrase “extinction level event” is being thrown around, you know things are about to get serious. It was another satisfying “S.H.I.E.L.D” story that laid the groundwork for some more personal conflicts going forward.
