I’m going to keep my superhero reviews short and sweet. “Arrow” is in flux while Oliver recovers from his duel with Ra’as al Ghul, and “Agent Carter” came out the gate strong and has cooled down a little since. Let’s mix DC and Marvel:

Marvel’s Agent Carter S1E1+2: “You Boys Play Nice”

I’ve been looking forward to “Agent Carter” since Marvel announced it was going to bridge the gap between the midseason finale and spring premiere of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Peggy Carter is by far the best Marvel heroine so far, though admittedly the bar wasn’t set particularly high by Pepper Potts or Jane Foster (I see Black Widow as more of an anti-hero). We all saw her whip Captain America into shape in “The First Avenger,” but that didn’t necessarily mean she could carry her own mini-series. Luckily for us, she totally can.

10.) Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

I fought hard for this one. “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” is, with all due respect to the second half of “Homeland’s” Season 4, the most improved show of 2014. Marvel basically took all the criticism of the show’s first season to heart and did everything in its power to fix those problems. The pacing never slowed, questions were answered, the relationships were more genuine (Fitz and Simmons are MVPs) and, most importantly, Skye (and Chloe Bennett) proved her worth to the team. Oh, and it also has a far-reaching impact on the Marvel Universe with the introduction of Daisy Johnson and The Inhumans. Excelsior! – Josh

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D S2E10: “Is It Nature or Nurture?”

“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” just had by far the best midseason finale of any fall show. There, I said it. The level of awesomeness on display here was beyond compare. Oh, and it also just happened to unlock a previously untapped side of the Marvel Universe that has the potential to impact just about every upcoming Marvel movie. Pretty cool for a show that too many impatient people left for dead last season, huh?

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D S2E9: “Because Bad Guys Love Their WMDs”

This episode was kind of a mixed bag. We raised some interesting questions and made some progress with the whole alien city storyline, but the whole thing seemed like a setup for next week’s (hopefully) epic midseason finale. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it left the events of this episode feeling a bit too much like filler. Oh well, we work with what we’re given.
