How To Get Away With Murder S1E12: “When In Doubt, Shut Your Mouth”

Standard

By Lexie Schapitl

Before I dive into this week’s episode, I’d like to address the inconsistency of success in TV murders. (Warning: Spoilers to follow) What I mean by that is, how does the “Scandal” gang kill people and dispose of their bodies on the reg without raising the slightest suspicion, while police find Sam Keating’s body in approximately three days? Remember when Jake killed those reporters and then literally dug a random hole and buried them in the middle of the day? How did that work? Or what about this week’s bloodbath, complete with head sawing? The magic of B613? OK, Shonda. Don’t even get me started on the body melting of “Breaking Bad.”

In this week’s episode of “HTGAWM”, the Keating students return for second semester, and through a series of flashbacks we see how winter break went for the whole gang (hint: not well). Annalise spent her time off in a Philadelphia hotel, hiding from her sister-in-law. She drinks, eats junk food, cries, and ignores calls from Nate for a few days before returning home to face Hannah.

“How to Get Away With Murder” returned this week after a ten-week hiatus. Before the break, we saw our team of law students kill Sam Keating and dispose of the body in the show’s winter finale. We also discovered that Annalise was in on the plan and merely playing the grieving, betrayed wife, although only Wes knew that secret. (For more on what happened in that episode, check out my recap of the winter finale).

The winter finale of HTGAWM opens with Annalise packing Sam’s stuff and kicking him to the curb, enraged that he knew about Lila’s pregnancy and lied to her once again. Sam insists that he did not kill Lila, saying that he’s not a violent person. But Annalise tells him that “everyone’s violent given the chance,” and Sam proves it within the next five minutes.

How to Get Away with Murder S1E7: “Some Guys Can Only Get It Up for Crazy”

In this week’s episode of “HTGAWM,” the Lila Stangard trial was the COTW, which makes my life a whole lot easier. The episode opens with the team conducting Rebecca’s trial prep, which she is not taking very seriously. Throughout the episode, Rebecca proves to be a difficult client. Annalise calls her “the terrorist” and says she makes her “grateful for the miscarriages.” A little harsh, Annie. But Rebecca calling Sam “Mr. Darcy” and being generally annoying doesn’t help the situation.
